“Following the resignation, Seri Paduka Baginda would like that Yang Amat Berhormat Tan Sri Mahiaddin bin Md Yassin carry out duties as ‘caretaker’ Prime Minister until a new Prime Minister is selected,” they shared in a statement.
This decision comes in accordance with Section 40(2)(a) of the Constitution of Malaysia, whereby the Yang di-Pertuan Agong may act at his discretion in the performance of the appointment of a Prime Minister.
“Seri Paduka Baginda is also taking this opportunity to call for all Malaysians to remain calm and join His Majesty in praying that our country remains under the protection of Allah SWT, to remain far from calamity and that the Covid-19 outbreak is damned and over with immediately,” they added.
