The quick action of the Titiwangsa Fire and Rescue Department (BBP) rescue team managed to save the lives of a Myanmar woman and her 3 young children, after she is believed to have jumped into the Sungai Bunus river along with her children to commit suicide on Sunday (May 25).
According to the Balai Bomba Titiwangsa Facebook page, their department received an emergency call about the foreign woman’s situation and rushed to the scene. There, they found that the woman was in the river with her 3 children in an attempt to commit suicide.

“The victim reacted aggressively and tried to hurt her child when approached. Efficient and quick action by firefighters, with the assistance of the PPDA unit from the Jalan Hang Tuah BBP, led to the successful rescue of the victims. The victim was then handed over to MOH officials for further action,” they added.
Mental health is important!
A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) also told MYNEWSHUB that the woman appeared to be very depressed and apparently felt she had to end her life due to burdens and extreme emotional stress.
Her young children also appeared to be traumatised and in need of immediate support.

A medical team conducted initial examinations at the scene, while the police and the Social Welfare Department (JKM) were also present to provide psychological assistance and welfare support to the woman and her children.
“Mental health is not a trivial issue. Early assistance and emotional support are very important to prevent tragedies like this from happening,” a JKM representative added.
