I have always been a huge fan of Italian food. So obviously, when I heard that there’s an Italian pasta bar in Kuala Lumpur that requires guests to make reservations a month prior, I was intrigued.
This pasta bar is located at the back of an alley in Ampang, KL, true to its name, Back Alley Pasta. The pasta here is handcrafted by local chefs, and the menu includes pasta, risotto, appetiser, and a grande meal for more than 2 people.
After a month of waiting, I finally got to try it. I was seated right in front of the kitchen, so I could see all meals prepared by the chef and sous chefs. I ordered the Quinoa, Spinach and Truffle Arancini with Pomodoro sauce as a starter, this dish is so unique and delicious, I knew that the mains are going to be great too.
I had the Tagliatelle in parmesan and black pepper sauce with pan-seared salmon. I was surprised that the taste is a bit sour because of the lime juice, but it was also creamy at the same time. My favourite is the perfectly cooked salmon that was both crispy and juicy.
My friend, on the other hand, loved the Sourdough Garganelli with Pork Ragu and Pecorino Romano. This dish is well-seasoned and the portion is huge. It was also our first time having Gargenelli, a pasta variety that is rarely seen in other cafes or Italian restaurants in Malaysia.
Before leaving, we ordered the Charred cauliflower with Pesto Diavola and Pecorino Romano. The sauce is the essence of this dish, it makes an ordinary ingredient like cauliflower very appetising.
Overall, I think that the one-month wait was worth it, and I would also love to try the other dishes, especially Aglio Olio the next time I am here. If you are interested, be sure to make a reservation first as they do not accept walk-ins at the moment!
