Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) residents, rejoice! The age-old battle for the preservation of the Taman Rimba Kiara park has finally come to an end and the verdict is in.
The park stays!
Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, took to her Twitter account to share the good news.
She wrote, “Taman Rimba Kiara at the Federal Court – We WON today for its preservation as a public park! A Battle that has taken us more than 5 years. For me, this is also a battle against the might of those with deep pockets and we prevailed.”
For those of you who may not know, the Taman Rimba Kiara park was set to be turned into a housing development comprising of 8 blocks of 42 to 54-storey high-end serviced apartments and a 29-storey block of 350 affordable housing units.
This was heavily protested by the residents of the area, who have been taking to the public park for recreational activities and nature-watching for most of their lives.
Thankfully, now, the Federal Court has axed the development order by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to construct at the park, deciding that the development order obtained in 2017 by Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan and developer Memang Perkasa Sdn Bhd for the Taman Rimba Kiara project was null and void.
Many have since taken to Hannah’s post to praise the decision (and those who participated in the fight to preserve the park) and celebrate its conservation
Considering the amount of wildlife that call Taman Rimba Kiara ‘home’, the preservation of this park is a step forward towards the necessity of co-existence, the sharing of the planet and its space with other species.
We’re so thankful that the Federal Court made the right decision.
