Remember the record-breaking national costume by Mrs Malaysia P. Vanishaantini which was recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the largest Wau costume in the country?
Well, the unique costume, dubbed the Puteri Wau Bulan, also turned heads at the Mrs World 2023 pageant in Las Vegas recently, clinching P. Vanishaantini the ‘Most Original Costume’ award at the pageant. This is the first time that our country has won in that category in the history of the pageant.
As shared by the Mrs Malaysia World and The Great Pageant Community Facebook pages, the Puteri Wau Bulan took home the Most Original Costume, one of the categories in relation to costumes at the international pageant competition.
Most Whimsical Costume was won by Mrs Sweden, Most Exotic Costume by Mrs India and Most Favourite Costume by Mrs Korea.
Overall, 27-year-old P. Vanishaantini, who hails from Seremban and is an entrepreneur also made Malaysia proud by securing 6th place out of 39 finalists in the competition.
The crown of Mrs World 2023 went to the contestant from Germany while the first runner-up and second runner-up were Mrs Canada and Mrs Colombia, respectively.
The majestic Wau costume was designed by Sarawak designer Saran Anak Lagong, measuring 3.8m high and 4.8m wide. Altogether, the costume weighed approximately 10kg.
The costume was inspired by the traditional floral batik patterns comprising Malaysia’s very own hibiscus, orchids, pagoda, Ixora, Bougainvillea, roses, and frangipani flowers.
Awesome! Congratulations Mrs Malaysia P. Vanishaantini for your performance in Mrs World 2023 and for putting Malaysian culture front and centre on the world stage.
