Here in Malaysia where wildlife is abundant, animal encounters are not uncommon, especially on roads or highways that’re bordered by the forest.

Most of the time, the animals are just passing by and no one gets hurt, but occasionally, humans and animals collide more than we’d like, resulting in disaster.

Recently, a driver and his family in Kelantan were injured when a water buffalo they unintentionally hit landed on top of the driver’s vehicle.

According to Oriental Daily, the man and his family were heading back to their home in Semerak after attending a relative’s wedding in Selising. There were five people in the car- a couple and their three children.

As the incident happened during the night at around 11pm, the driver had low visibility and was unable to avoid the buffalo in time.

The collision was so unexpected that there was no bracing for any impact, causing the buffalo to be sent flying into the air before landing on the vehicle and crashing through its rear windshield.

Consequently, a woman seated in the passenger seat of the car was seriously injured and has been sent to the intensive care unit of Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) in Kupang Kerang for treatment.

The driver and his family said that apart from the victim, they were only slightly injured and are currently in stable condition.

“The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) (Reckless Driving Causing Accidents) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” said Pasir Puteh district police chief Superintendent Zaizul Rizal Zakaria.
