Recently, women, family and community development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun posted a promotional video alongside celebrity, Datuk Rosyam Nor to promote the ministry’s Women Rise Entrepreneurship Programme which was held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday morning (September 13).
In the video, Rina is seen to be smiling and allowing Rosyam Nor to utter insulting words towards women such as the fact that they “wake up late”, “are all slow”.
He also said he would beat up the women who wanted to meet him to wake them up.
Hannah Yeoh calls for Rina to get sacked
The video has gone viral and attracted plenty of criticism from fellow Malaysians. One of the promotional video’s biggest critics was former deputy women, family and community development minister Hannah Yeoh who wrote on Facebook that the video tarnished the image of Malaysian women.
Yeoh said this was not the first time Rina resorted to cheap publicity that embarrassed the ministry.
“Worst still was when Rina and NWF (National Welfare Foundation) officials just stand and smirk while those words are being uttered at the ministry.”
Meanwhile, she also reminded Rina that she is not paid thousands per month by taxpayers just for her to create a programme.
“If Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is really serious about Keluarga Malaysia, he should drop such a minister who belittles women,” she stressed.
Yeoh went on to question how scripts that made fun of women were approved by Rina or the ministry.
“The ministry has been a joke for the past 3 years. It saddens me to see the personnel, agencies under the ministry as well as its target groups used like this.”
Yeoh said it was time for Rina and her deputy to wake up after more than 3 years in power.
