A popular seafood restaurant in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah recently made headlines when a customer paid only RM400 for a RM1,102 bill. The family of 3 paid the bill partially because they allegedly did not have enough cash on them, and it was a mutual agreement made between the family and the cashier.

Following the circulation the matter, a Sabahan vlogger, Ken Tash shared a 40-minute live clip on his Facebook account. Ken visited the seafood restaurant with 2 other people, and they ordered exactly the same dishes the previous family had ordered. After placing their order, Ken tried to contact 1 of the family members who shared their side of the story on social media, but to no avail.

He did not respond to Ken’s PM on Facebook, and he did not answer to Ken’s multiple calls on social media too. Aside from dining in at the same restaurant, Ken also wanted to understand what really happened during that night.

Not long after, Jenny, the staff who attended to the family revealed that all orders were only confirmed to the kitchen after disclosing the weight and the prices.

“They handpicked the seafood. They agreed after I weighed the seafood in front of them.”

Jenny added that she had informed the price of the lobster to the customers, and they did not express any dissatisfaction towards the price. Jenny even told the customers that every 100g of lobsters costs RM48, as stated in the menu.

“I told them 1 kg of lobster cost RM480. They told me they wanted it and assured me that they have credit cards to pay,” Jenny explained while going through the menu with Ken.

During the incident, the family claimed they were not informed of the actual price.

According to Jenny, customers are encouraged to personally choose their seafood from the aquariums at the restaurant. So, from Jenny’s side of the story, the customers themselves handpicked the lobster, crabs, and 800g of grouper fish.

“If customers don’t agree with it, I won’t write the orders on the paper.”
