Sexual harassment really isn’t a joke. Nevermind the fact that it’s wrong, instances of even mild sexual harassment may leave a victim feeling at risk, not to mention cases of overt sexual harassment that can possibly leave one with long lasting mental trauma. It’s no wonder why causes like #MeToo have gained such a huge following over social media.
In a Tweet posted by Twitter user @HudzaifahAziz, he shares his experience of jogging around in what appears to be the Taiping Lake Gardens, when he was suddenly cat-called and chased by a group of aunties.
Here’s what he wrote:
I was catcalled & even chased by a group of Zumba aunties and kakaks. They even took a video of me running. Might looked fun but imagine if the situation was reversed, it would be outright sexual harassment. #StoryOfMyLife ? pic.twitter.com/dnBAVVtIRD

The incident, which was published to social media on 16th September 2019, shows Hudzaifah jogging along a jogging track in a tank-top and sweatpants when a group of brightly dressed women, who were practicing their Zumba, suddenly started chasing after him and cat-calling him.
Then, they started purposefully running into him and ‘bumping’ up against him as he jogged past!
Needless to say, this incident has left Hudzaifah clearly shaken and embarrassed, and he left for his hotel promptly after that incident.
Twitter netizens obviously had plenty to say about what had happened, and the responses are varied. Some have condemned the aunties for sexually harassing Hudzaifah.
Some have told Hudzaifah to calm down and stop making a big deal out of it. One mentioned that “The aunties were just having fun. They didn’t touch you, right?”, while another told him to stop overthinking the situation.
Whatever your opinion may be on the incident, it is always worth keeping in mind that sexual harassment really shouldn’t be something that is mocked. It can happen to people of all genders and ages, and every case should be looked at from a fair, objective point of view. Let this be a reminder to everyone that sexual harassment can happen to anybody!
