Kepala Air (the head of the water), also known as ‘water column’, is a dangerous phenomenon that happens during floods, where a massive surge of water can cause people and things to be swept away.
An example of this is a huge waterfall in Kelantan that only shows up during the monsoon season, caused by the kepala air.
The Jabatan Netizen Malaysia Twitter page recently shared footage of a waterfall at Gunung Stong, Kelantan, which technically isn’t even a waterfall but a kepala air that by chance is going over the mountain.
They wrote, “Gunung Stong waterfall, Dabong, Kelantan. This is not a waterfall, this is kepala air.”
In their post, they also showcased images of the mountain prior to the rainy season, where there is only a small waterfall.
“The second and third picture is the atmosphere of the waterfall without a day of rain. The mountain is 1,422 meters (4,664 feet) high,” they added.
While the massive waterfall may look majestic, it is also a reminder to not play near or swim in rivers during the monsoon season as a surge of water can appear at any moment and sweep everything away.
We hope that everyone remains safe during this monsoon season.
