A police corporal was arrested after he kicked a security guard in the stomach at a residence in Taman Sri Manja yesterday (10 May).
According to Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid, a report was lodged by a senior police officer at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters at 9am.
The officer watched a video of the fight that went viral on WhatsApp and made a report after.
Harian Metro reports that the suspect started a fight when the 59-year-old security guard did not open the boom gate at the entrance of the residential area on time.
A video shows the suspect (police officer) on a motorcycle approaching the entrance and had to stop for a while because the security guard was slow in lifting the boom gate. This caused the police officer in his 30s to get down and argue with the guard.
“The suspect claimed that the victim uttered abusive words towards him, making him upset and causing him to kick the security guard in the stomach,” Mohamad Fakhrudin said.
Mohamad Fakhrudin added that the victim was sent to the University of Malaya Medical Center (UMMC) for further treatment.
“The suspect is also said to have threatened the security guard by allegedly trying to hit him with his helmet,” he said.
“Following that, we detained the member for further investigation under Section 506/323 of the Penal Code for the offence of criminal intimidation and causing injury.”
He added that the police would not compromise on taking action towards any of its members who commit crimes against the public.
