Five individuals were arrested yesterday after getting involved in a physical altercation which caused severe injuries to two individuals in front of a house on Tong Sang Street, Sibu yesterday evening (10 September).

In a video that was posted on Info Roadblock JPJ/POLIS, one man can be seen standing over a body lying on the ground. Another is seen holding a wooden rod, taunting him to come closer. Out of a sudden, a man rushes to the scene carrying a kuali. The two proceed to hit each other with their held objects as another man rushes to get his hands in the fight.

“The incident happened when two of the five suspects quarrelled with each other. One individual tried to break up the fight but took a hit instead, causing a fight to break out among them,” said ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, Sibu District Police Chief. He added that the arrest was made when they received complaints from the public.

Authorities rushed to the scene at around 4:55 p.m. and found two men lying on the road who were later taken to Sibu Hospital, as said by a source from Utusan Borneo. All suspects (aged between 13 and 27) were arrested, including the injured suspects who were sent to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations by the police discovered that all the suspects were intoxicated after they drank a type of alcohol known as “langkau.” According to the District Police Chief, the wooden rod that is believed to have been used during the fight has been confiscated. “All suspects will be remanded for four days till 12 September for further investigation. The case will be investigated according to Section 148 of the Penal Code,” he added.

Always drink safely and in moderation, guys!
