Recently, an incident had gone viral online where the general public was seen chasing a van that had been driving against the flow of traffic on Jalan Besar Ampang, on Saturday (July 1).

The van had also crashed into 4 different vehicles.

According to a report by Harian Metro, the driver of the van had been driving against traffic and hit a Honda Jazz that was stopped on the left shoulder of the road.

The van then also hit a Mitsubishi Attrage, a Perodua Bezza and a Proton Wira which were all moving.

The viral video showed the driver trying to reverse the van and being chased by members of the public on foot before he managed to escape.

Since then, the 4 owners of the vehicles involved have filed a report with the police for further action and the driver of the van was later promptly arrested when he had come forward to file a police report at the Ampang Jaya Traffic Station on Sunday (July 2).

“Preliminary investigations found that the driver of the van fled because he was chased by members of the public who were at the scene and was worried for his safety,” shared Ampang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail via a report by Sinar Harian.

While the van driver’s urine screening test was found to be negative for substances, the suspect was taken to Ampang Hospital for a blood test for the purpose of alcohol content testing.

He was also found to have 6 past criminal records, 7 outstanding traffic summonses and 2 traffic arrest warrants.

This case is now being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and under Section 54 of the same act for failing to stop after an accident.
