For those who are able-bodied, we never really know how difficult it is to be differently-abled until we try to put ourselves in their shoes.

Even then, the experience would not be the same.

The CatsForPalestine Twitter page recently shared a video of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Deputy Vice-Chancellor (TNC) of Student and Alumni Affairs (HEPA), Prof Dr Arifin Abdu testing out a ramp in a wheelchair (that was also a little too small for him) and falling backwards.

They wrote, “TNC HEPA trying to demonstrate going on a ramp in a wheelchair. In the end, he fell backwards.”

“What a joke. You have to have the skills to manoeuvre a wheelchair. Just because you are able-bodied does not make you equipped with the skill.”

In the video, Prof Dr Arifin could be seen fitting himself into a small wheelchair before wheeling himself towards a ramp.

Within the first 1 second of him attempting to wheel himself up the ramp, he immediately falls backwards and others rush to help him up.

Many took to the comment section to share their amusement and opinions on his attempt.

“This TNC HEPA is good. Only when he falls backwards will people take seriously the issue of fixing that ramp. Whatever it is, I want to laugh for a bit.”

Ramp 2

“That’s why we have to respect and have concern for people with disabilities (PWD). It looks normal when they move around, but when we try it once, we curl over.”
