The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bangi has urged fellow backbenchers who are not part of the administration to boycott all events hosted by the United States Embassy in Malaysia.
In a Facebook post yesterday (2 March), Syahredzan Johan explained that the boycott is a protest against Washington’s role in recent attacks on Iran alongside the Israeli government. He stated that the boycott should include high-profile events, such as the US Independence Day celebrations.

Syahredzan described the US actions as unacceptable. The conflict in West Asia, which began on Saturday (28 February), has resulted in the deaths of several Iranian leaders, an escalation Syahredzan warned is bound to impact Malaysia’s economy.
“If we receive invitations to their Independence Day celebrations, let’s not attend. We must show that we can no longer accept their actions,” Syahredzan wrote.
“Last year, they imposed global tariffs that impacted our economy. This year, they have waged war against another country alongside Israel, killing leaders, which will surely affect our economy further.”
Parliamentary condemnation
Syahredzan also raised the matter in Parliament yesterday during a debate on a ministerial statement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The debate, joined by Pulai MP Suhaizan Kaiat, focused on the government’s stance against the US-Israel strikes.
In the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar reiterated that Malaysia strongly condemns the attacks by the Zionist Israeli regime and the US, calling them a blatant violation of national sovereignty and international order.
“Malaysia calls for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, and for all parties to return to the negotiating table,” the Prime Minister stated.
“The principles of national sovereignty and international law must be respected and upheld.”
US President Donald Trump and the Israeli government launched the surprise attack on Saturday, which Trump termed “major combat operations” to defend American interests.
According to the US President, the strike was intended to deter further escalation and respond to intelligence indicating imminent threats.

The attack resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. His wife also passed away a few days later from injuries sustained during the strike.
