Malaysia Airlines has suspended several services to the Middle East following escalating tensions triggered by military strikes on Iran ordered by US President Donald Trump.

The precautionary move affects flights linking Kuala Lumpur with Doha, Jeddah, and Madinah after portions of regional airspace were shut down due to security concerns. The airline confirmed that multiple departures and return flights scheduled over two consecutive days were cancelled as a safety measure. Routes between Malaysia’s capital and the affected cities were temporarily withdrawn while authorities assessed risks associated with flying near conflict zones.

The decision mirrors actions taken by other international carriers that have rerouted or grounded aircraft amid regional uncertainty. Flights to and from the three locations between 28 February and 1 March have been cancelled, according to an official statement by MAS.

Passengers affected by the cancellations are being contacted directly and offered options including rebooking, refunds, or alternative travel arrangements. Travellers have been advised to regularly check their booking status through official channels before heading to the airport, as further adjustments may occur at short notice.

“Our objective is to defend the American people.”

Military strikes on Iranian-linked targets were launched following a joint assessment by Donald Trump and the Israeli government, according to official statements. The operation reportedly focused on strategic facilities believed to be connected to weapons development and regional militant networks. Trump, in an official statement, said the action was carried out in the interest of “defending the Americans.”

US officials said the strike was intended to deter further escalation and respond to intelligence indicating imminent threats to American and Israeli interests. Israeli authorities described the attack as a necessary step to prevent Iran from strengthening its military capabilities and supporting armed groups operating near Israeli borders.

The strikes were executed using coordinated air and missile operations designed to minimise civilian casualties while targeting infrastructure deemed militarily significant.

According to multiple reports, including acknowledgements from the Israeli government and statements by Trump, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the recent joint US–Israeli strikes.

In his statement, Trump called Khamenei “the most evil figure in history,” adding that his death represented justice for both Iranians and Americans.
