An elderly couple in West Java, Indonesia recently went viral after embarking on a 4-hour walk just to reunite with their family for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The elderly couple decided to travel 17.5km on foot after not having enough money to go to visit their children and grandchildren, even via public transport.

Shared on Instagram by the official account of the Sumedang police force on Wednesday (26 April 2023), the couple can be seen walking on the Cisumdawu Toll Road from their home in Jatihurip to Rancakalong.

Police officers manning the toll road noticed the elderly couple walking and approached them to assist them and learn why they are walking dangerously on the highway.

The couple then shared that they were trying to visit their children and grandchildren in Rancakalong, asserting,

“We miss our grandchildren so much so we decided to visit them for Aidilfitri, although we don’t have enough money,”

Touched by the elderly couple’s resolve and love for their family, the police officer asked them to rest first and gave them some money for public transport.

The Sumedang police then escorted the couple to the public transportation stop via a police vehicle so that they can travel safely. You can watch the whole video here:

In the post, the Sumedang police updated the caption by revealing that the elderly couple actually suffered from some form of memory loss because their family had actually visited them during Hari Ray recently.

Regardless, this story just goes to show the endless love and resolve that parents and grandparents have for families. We hope that the elderly couple is blessed with continued health and prosperity <3
