Thai authorities have arrested a Polish tourist after he slapped a Thai woman’s buttocks while she was looking at products at a convenience store in Bangkok on Sunday (January 12).

He later claimed that he didn’t realise his actions were illegal as he had done the same to other women before.

According to a report by Thaiger, the woman initially thought her friend was playing a prank on her but when she turned around to see who had smacked her, she was shocked to find that it was a foreign stranger.

She further explained that the convenience store’s staff and customers had stared at her following the assault, causing her to feel embarrassed and leave the store. She then told her family about the incident and decided to make a complaint to the police.

The woman clarified that she did not want compensation from the Polish tourist. Instead, she wanted an apology and for him to refrain from repeating his actions.

After successfully identifying him through CCTV footage from the convenience store, officers contacted the agent of the condominium he was staying at to inform him of the incident.

However, rather than appearing at the police station to apologise to the woman, he told his agent, “I did not spank her hard. I’ve done this many times before in nightclubs and no one complained.”

“I didn’t do anything illegal. This isn’t a criminal act at all. Why should I be punished? The police can do nothing to me and I’m about to leave Thailand.”

The man was arrested

Seeing that the Polish tourist had zero remorse for his actions, the woman ultimately decided to pursue legal action against him, which led to his arrest in accordance with Section 278 of the Criminal Law for sexually assaulting a person aged over 15 years old.

The penalty is imprisonment for up to 10 years, a fine of up to 200,000 baht (RM26,180.80) or both.
