As avid social media users, you’re likely aware that new trends emerge quickly. Followers immediately get on board with social media trends by duplicating the acts or at least, generating memes out of them.
When is a trend considered inappropriate or too much? Malaysian preacher, Ustazah Asma’ Harun commented on a recent TikTok trend via her Facebook post and urged women to stay away from it.
“It is clearly soft porn,” she said.
In case you’re not aware, 1 of the latest TikTok trends sees a Malaysian woman placing her face close to her mobile phone screen and talking in a soft-spoken manner with a soothing voice that tells you, “Come closer, we’ll talk”. And it didn’t take long for other social media users to hop on the trend, and others, including men, showed themselves maintaining an oddly close distance to the screen when the clip was played.
Ustazah Asma’ also said that she has read the comments online and said some parties have, unfortunately, sexualised the matter.
“It’s already forbidden to speak affectionately to men who are not your family members, and now you’re speaking to everyone in a tempting manner with your face covering the whole screen.”
She also highlighted how the tempting act will arouse men with ill intentions, and the proper way to speak to men who aren’t your family is to speak good words politely.
“Even non-Muslim women are more polite and ethical”, Ustazah Asma’ added.
To those who are aware of this trend, what do you think of it?
