Now, we’ve always known that Malaysia is full of smart and talented people making our country proud in foreign countries. But, what many don’t know is that a majority of them are youngsters who clearly have bright futures ahead of them.
One of these youngsters is a 12-year-old who left quite the impression on Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.
Yeoh took to her Facebook profile to showcase Travis Teoh, a young racing driver who trains in Italy, under 2-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso!
She wrote, “I met a special Malaysian boy, Travis Teoh, who visited me in Parliament recently. Travis trains in Italy. (We) jumped on an online call with Fernando Alonso (2-time F1 world champion) and also the owner of A14 Management to facilitate the development of a very talented young Malaysian racing driver, Travis Teoh.”
Most of us can’t even drive in our adult years, but this boy started racing at the tender age of 6!
“Travis’ racing career started with Double R Motorsport (DRM), when he was 6-years-old, where he received coaching from Mohd Rohairijaz Mohd Ropin, the owner of the racing team. It is under DRM’s wings that Travis won many National and International titles throughout his racing career.”
“Travis was chosen by Fernando Alonso to join his young talent development program through DPK Racing, winner for 2022 of DIA-CIK World Championship, OK Class,” she explained.
On top of his amazing achievements at such a young age, his mindset also impressed the Youth and Sports Minister.
“I asked Travis id he could tell me something about himself.”
“His reply left a lasting impression – ‘I work really hard for everything, to make it happen and I’m still going to work harder’. This is not a typical reply from a 12-year-old boy. I know he is serious about racing. I want to make sure I do not miss out on supporting a potential Malaysian world champion,” she added.
It is truly amazing to see young Malaysians chasing their dreams and making themselves, their parents and their country proud!
We cannot wait to see what the future holds in store for Travis.
