Flower bouquets are usually the go-to gifts on Mother’s Day, but some mums prefer gifts that are more practical.
On 3 May (Friday), Sharon Lam, an online florist in Sydney, Australia shared a photo of a bouquet she made for her mother-in-law on the Facebook group Subtle Asian Traits.
Sounds totally normal right? But this isn’t just any kind of bouquet. It has a whole durian in it!
We decided to ask her for more details about her smelly and sweet gift.
As a florist (and also a nice daughter-in-law), she often gives flowers to her mother-in-law, but she wanted to do something different this time. Sharon decided to give her something that her mother-in-law and the rest of the family could also enjoy! So she went on to purchase a durian even though she doesn’t enjoy it herself! What a thoughtful lady she is!
Even though the durian has a thorny characteristic, she managed to spruce up the bouquet with some pink baby’s breath and a ribbon, making it look more appropriate as a gift. This is her unique way of expressing love to her mother-in-law.
She said,
“It’s not a new idea but it’s my first time doing a durian bouquet so I was a little excited too myself.”
Her siblings-in-law seemed to be more excited about the bouquet than her mother-in-law, but they still think that she enjoyed receiving the special gift.
Sharon even said that she could be setting a new trend with this strong-smelling bouquet for special occasions!
Since Mother’s Day is just around the corner, this is indeed a creative idea especially for mums who don’t prefer flowers as gifts.
