It’s no secret that Malaysians love to travel to Thailand, with the country’s popularity among tourists from our country seemingly at an all-time high post-pandemic.

In fact, based on the latest statistics by the Thailand Tourism and Sports Ministry, the country is on track to welcome more tourists from Malaysia compared to last year, when our country topped the chart for the number of foreign travellers to the Kingdom, with a whopping 4,626,422 visitors.

As reported by the Thai publication The Nation, foreign tourist arrivals in Thailand from 1 January to 1 December 2024 showed that 4,506,898 Malaysians had visited the Land of Smiles during the period.

With December being the tourism high season for Thailand, it won’t be a surprise if the number of tourists from Malaysia is more than last year.

However, barring an incredible influx of Malaysian tourists this month to Thailand, Malaysia will be dethroned by China as the top source of foreign tourists for the Kingdom, as a whopping 6,214,226 tourists from China visited Thailand from 1 January to 1 December 2024.

After Malaysia, the third highest number of foreign tourists to Thailand is from India with 1,915,152, followed by South Korea with 1,685,600 in fourth and Russia in fifth with 1,503,312.

Thailand’s tourism sector generated a whopping RM195 billion in the first 11 months of 2024

Overall, Thailand recorded foreign tourist arrivals of a staggering 32,020,169 from 1 January to 1 December 2024, exceeding the 28.09 million it recorded in the whole of 2023, with one month to spare!

Furthermore, the Thailand Tourism and Sports Ministry announced that thanks to the over 32 million foreign visitors, the country’s tourism sector generated an astounding THB1.5 trillion or approximately RM195.6 billion for the nation during the period.
