A story was recently shared on a Facebook page where a doctor revealed that a high school student in Thailand developed a life-threatening condition after he was punished by a teacher.

The student was reported to be hospitalised with serious muscle damage after he was allegedly forced to do squats as punishment for not handing in his homework, raising public concerns regarding the excessive disciplinary methods.

He was forced to do 200 squats continuously

According to the doctor, the student had developed a serious condition known as rhabdomyolysis, a dangerous condition that could lead to kidney failure, as reported by The Nation.

The incident reportedly began when the student failed to submit his homework on time, prompting the teacher to punish him with 200 squats without rest.

In the following days, the student’s leg pain grew increasingly severe.

Eventually, the student’s urine turned a dark colour, which was said to be a telltale sign of rhabdomyolysis, prompting an emergency hospital visit.

The condition is triggered by extreme physical exertion

Doctors later confirmed the diagnosis, explaining that the condition is often triggered by extreme physical exertion.

They explained how, when muscle tissue breaks down rapidly, it releases harmful proteins into the bloodstream, potentially overwhelming the kidneys. They added that if it’s left untreated, it can lead to kidney failure.

The incident has since sparked public outrage, with many questioning the use of excessive physical punishment in schools, especially when it puts students’ health at serious risk.
