Being a student isn’t easy. Moreover, excelling academically demands a lot of time and effort. That makes Gordon Yong’s academic journey at the prestigious Imperial College London (ranked 2nd globally) all the more inspiring!
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Gordon opened up about his amazing journey at a top London college, sharing the wins and milestones he hit along the way.

He’s been on the Dean’s List for 4 consecutive years!
Gordon is set to graduate from Imperial College London this October with a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, where he has been on the Dean’s List for 4 consecutive years.
He was even awarded the prestigious Hinchley Medal, which is only awarded to the top student of a graduating class.
For those who aren’t aware, the Hinchley Medal at Imperial College of Science and Technology honours the memory of the late Professor J.W. Hinchley, the 1st Professor of Chemical Engineering at the college.

“Always have faith in yourself”
Gordon revealed that, despite achieving such remarkable success, this outcome wasn’t exactly what he had initially set his sights on.
When asked how he felt leaving the comfort of home, the 24-year-old said,
“It wasn’t easy, but I reminded myself to seize every opportunity and focus on what Imperial has to offer.”
This homegrown Sarawakian went on to explain that receiving the Hinchley Medal was a major milestone in wrapping up his student life at Imperial.
When asked if he had any advice for aspiring students, he said,
“Always have faith in yourself. The world may seem big and intimidating, but it’s also full of opportunities. I live by this principle where I would enjoy life as much as possible and work hard when necessary. That and always thank your family.”

Despite coming from the humble background of Sarawak, he’s shining on the global stage. We hope Gordon’s story inspires others who are pursuing their studies at their own universities!
