On 7-Eleven‘s inspiration behind 7CAFé’s new menu of Ready-To-Eat (RTE) meals, Jason Chandrasekhar, General Manager of Fresh Food & Quality Assurance at 7-Eleven, revealed that they studied the RTE meals sold by other convenience stores in Japan, Thailand and Singapore.

“We discovered that most of their products are based on their local cuisines and palates,” Chandrasekhar said, which was why staple foods like Nasi Ayam Paprik and Nasi Ayam Kam Heong were chosen as part of the selection.

Plus, 7-Eleven also wants everyone to enjoy a diversified yet wholesome food selection without burning a hole in their wallets, with RTE meals like Nasi Goreng Kampung and Nasi Goreng Belado priced only at RM5.90 each! 

“The RM5.90 RTE meals are meant to help Malaysians eat better, especially our own valuable employees and B40 groups,” said Chandrasekhar. “It’s expensive eating out, even at mamaks!”

And with the slightly higher-priced RTE meals (RM6.90 – RM8.90), Malaysians can enjoy a wider assortment of meal offerings, such as Nasi Ayam Nyonya, Pasta Keju Pedas and Nasi Ayam Kong Pao.

“We wanted to replicate Chinese halal meals with our RTE meals, so that every Malaysian can enjoy delicious, affordable Chinese food on-the-go,” Chandrasekhar shared, adding that they use other convenience stores AND even restaurants as their benchmark in terms of quality and taste.
