The Sultan of Brunei drove his own BMW car and fetched Anwar to Seri Perdana, Putrajaya from the Malaysian Air Force Base, Subang. The Prince of Brunei, Pengiran Muda Abdul Mateen was also in the vehicle.

They arrived at Seri Perdana shortly after. The last time Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah visited Malaysia was between 4 and 6 March 2019.

A historical moment

The image of the Sultan of Brunei driving his own car and picking up Anwar Ibrahim on the way to Putrajaya made its rounds online.

Some netizens called it a historical moment, while some say that perhaps they wanted to have a private conversation together. Regardless, this has demonstrated the special friendship between Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Anwar Ibrahim.

“This can be a historical moment. When Sultan from other country drives and fetches our PM Malaysia. What a moment!”

A user commented, “If I’m not mistaken. When the Sultan of Brunei comes to Malaysia, he always drives his own car. But this is the first time the Sultan drives and the passenger is the PM of the country. Usually, when the Sultan drives the car alone, it’s just him and his son.”

Maybe both of them wanna have a private conversation. Networking is business,” said another user.

We hope that this is a show of things to come between the two nations.
