A student in Kuantan was caned on the hand by her teacher after forgetting to bring her homework to school.
Her parents later expressed their dissatisfaction on social media after discovering that their daughter’s palm was bruised and swollen.

According to Sin Chew Daily, the parents wrote that their daughter was whipped on the palm not only for forgetting her homework but also for answering a question incorrectly. The daughter repeatedly said it was painful and mentioned that she was not the only student who received strokes of the rotan that day.
“Did you really need to punish them like this? Would the punishment be effective? The teacher claimed it was just a light hit!”
The parents also shared that they took their daughter to the hospital for a physical examination. They voiced strong opposition to corporal punishment and recounted their own traumatic experiences of being punished during childhood.

“When I was a kid, I was punished for being a slow learner. It didn’t help.”
“It wasn’t until I met a teacher in secondary school who motivated me and made me realise that learning can be fun.”
They further argued that corporal punishment for minor mistakes can negatively affect students’ mental health and may even contribute to developmental issues.
“Reject whipping! Reject violence!”
What do you think of the parents’ take on this matter?
