Throughout this pandemic, it’s not just the people who have been struggling, stray animals are in dire need of help and attention too!
The bentoanimalrescues (BARO) team is a rescue organisation that helps stray cats and dogs around Semenyih and they need your help to provide these strays with all the love they deserve.
Started off by a group of passionate students from the University of Nottingham Malaysia, the initiative was founded by Areen Aslam and is currently being lead by Eunice Lua.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Areen said, “Unfortunately, since there were no proper regulations put in place, the number of stray cats and dogs started multiplying. We even had 20 kittens in 1 month at one point in time.” As they lacked the manpower to manage so many animals at once, the team unofficially started taking care of stray kittens and began efforts to neuter adult male and female cats around their student campus.
As for the dogs they managed to find, they were posted for adoption. “We had many puppies that we also re-homed. The mothers were quite hard to catch. At that time, we weren’t able to get safe economic tranquillisers and we were worried about doing it ourselves,” Areen added.
In need of donations
With the pandemic, the team is finding it quite difficult to assist the cats and dogs, as well as finding transport to rescue these strays as most of those who are part of the initiative are international students. Hence, it’s also been hard trying to fund the vet bills of these strays.

Mr.Pants needs a new home

Aside from donations, the organisation is looking for a home to care for their foster dog, Mr. Pumpernickel Spaghetti Pants, also known as Mr.Pants. This friendly 2-year-old mix breed is currently under the temporary care of one of the team members but is now in need of a loving new home. Just look at that adorable face!
