If you often travel via Malaysia Airlines then you should take note!

Malaysia Airlines just announced that they will no longer provide free check-in baggage for their cheapest domestic flight (Economy Lite), starting 8 April 2019. It has already begun!

In a statement on their website, Malaysia Airlines revealed that travellers with the Enrich Blue membership will not be entitled to any free check-in baggage allowance. However, they still have free Cabin Baggage (aka hand-carry baggage) allowance of up to 7kg on Economy Lite.

FYI, Enrich is a membership programme by Malaysia Airlines whereby frequent flyers can enjoy some lifestyle rewards. When flyers first enter the membership, they will receive the Enrich Blue card and with regular travel, they can upgrade to the Elite Tiers – Enrich Silver, Enrich Gold and Enrich Platinum.

Besides that, Malaysia Airlines’ Economy Lite doesn’t offer any discount for children, rebooking is not available, and they also have a no refund policy. Take note, guys!

Having said that, those who possess the Enrich Elites – Silver, Gold and Platinum – memberships will still have free check-in baggage allowance on Economy Lite. The allowed weight of free check-in baggage on Economy Lite for the Enrich Elites members are listed below:

  • Silver – 5kg
  • Gold – 10kg
  • Platinum – 15kg

You can also take a look at this table of their revised Free Baggage Allowance (FBA) for their customers:

Nevertheless, travellers who take international flights using Malaysia Airlines will still enjoy FBA and there’s also an additional baggage entitlement for Enrich Elite members. Cool beans!

On that note, if you know anyone who frequently flies via Malaysia Airlines for their domestic travels, don’t forget to share this article with them to inform them about the revised Free Baggage Allowance.
