A post by a concerned friend on the r/askSingapore subreddit on the social site Reddit has caught the attention of netizens recently as he believed that his buddy kena “gong tao” or been put under a black magic spell by his Thai girlfriend.

In the post, the man sought advice from Singaporeans on how to deal with the alleged black magic spell as his friend has been head over heels for the woman since they met and is now planning on getting married.

The woman is “way out of his league” but he has spent nearly RM350,800 on her

The Redditor further revealed that his friend is in his early 30s and met his Thai girlfriend at a Thai disco in Singapore.

He added that when his friend broke the news about his plans to marry the woman, their friend group was shocked as the man was allegedly “way out of her league in every aspect”, including looks, wealth and career.

While he doesn’t really mind this, the Redditor became concerned for him after his friend accidentally revealed that the woman has used up most of his SGD100,000 or RM350,800 life savings.

Worse, she had also been accessing his money without asking him.

The Redditor stressed,

“I’m very concerned that he is under some sort of spell as he refuses to break up with her and can’t give a good reason why he’s still with her and wants to marry her.”

He then asked for advice on how to tell if his friend had been put under a black magic spell and if so, what can he do about it in regards to a spiritual or religious aspect of it.

Most netizens don’t believe in “gong tao” and just think the man is blinded by his feelings for the woman

In the comments section, many netizens said that they don’t believe in “gong tao” and think that the Redditor’s friend was just extremely infatuated with the woman.

One commenter said that they expected the situation to end badly for the man as he had given the woman free access to his bank account.

Meanwhile, another commenter said that they don’t believe in “gong tao” and that it is more likely that the woman is “roleplaying” the type of woman he likes but is unable to find or successfully woo in Singapore.

They added that contrary to popular belief, men do not necessarily go for the “hot” woman, as hot and rich women get dumped too.

Besides that one commenter said that the Redditor shouldn’t worry about his friend as the woman will likely dump him soon as she had already used up most of his savings.
