Seventeen-year-old Kerk Joo Jie tragically lost her life after being struck by a falling beam at a temple in Tanjung Sepat, Selangor, recently.
Joo Jie’s father witnessed the heartbreaking incident and said he held his daughter’s hand as she looked at him one last time before breathing her last. Her funeral was held on Friday (10 April), during which family and friends gathered to send her off on her final, sorrowful journey.

According to reports by China Press and Sin Chew Daily, the funeral service began at her home at 10 AM, before she was cremated at the Sepang Municipal Council Crematorium in Selangor. Her mother had also requested funeral home staff to dress Joo Jie in her favourite outfit.
The outfit included the sneakers, waist pouch, and jeans that Joo Jie often wore.
Many relatives, friends, teachers, and classmates arrived early that morning to pay their final respects, standing in front of the coffin one by one in a solemn and sorrowful atmosphere.

The hearse also passed by SMK Tanjong Sepat, Joo Jie’s alma mater, where her friends and teachers gathered to pay their last respects. The school’s management later expressed its condolences in a Facebook post, remembering Joo Jie as a cheerful student.
“She was a very kind and good student. We will miss Joo Jie. She was always full of smiles.”


In case you missed it, Joo Jie lost her life on Tuesday (7 April) at around 8 PM when a wooden beam fell on her at the temple. At the time, she was cleaning the temple, something she regularly did with her family on most nights.
Her father also expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, describing his daughter as filial and an excellent student.
