Sungai Besar UMNO Chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos is auctioning off a pair of his slippers to help settle outstanding legal fees arising from Seputeh Member of Parliament (MP) Teresa Kok’s defamation suit against him.

In a Facebook post last night (10 February), Jamal announced that he would hold an auction this morning (11 February) at his residence to settle the remaining legal fees of RM66,061.

The Sungai Besar UMNO Chief further revealed that he would not only be auctioning off a pair of slippers but also a hammer, a toothbrush, and a white water dipper.

Previously, the Kuala Lumpur High Court conducted a public auction of movable property, listing 14 seized items belonging to Jamal under a Writ of Seizure and Sale No. WA-37WS-12-01/2026.

Jamal, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, stated that while the outstanding amount may not seem substantial to some, it is a significant burden given his current health condition.

The origin of the lawsuit

Teresa Kok filed the defamation suit in 2017 following statements Jamal made during a press conference in March of that year. Jamal had accused her of misappropriating funds from Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas). The Seputeh MP denied the allegations, stating that the false claims had damaged her reputation.

Berita Harian reported that on 26 July 2022, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled in Teresa Kok’s favour, finding Jamal’s statements defamatory. The court awarded her RM300,000 in damages and RM50,000 in costs, while also granting an injunction to restrain him from repeating the allegations.

In a recent statement, Teresa Kok pointed out that the outstanding sum of RM66,061.85 represents court-awarded costs that remained unpaid despite repeated efforts over an extended period to seek compliance.

She also addressed claims of forced entry into Jamal’s residence to seize items.

“The judgment debtor was not present, there was no response to the execution, and the writ authorised entry in such circumstances,” she clarified.

In another post, she expressed hope that Jamal would successfully auction his slippers to settle the debt.

Meanwhile, the Seputeh MP’s other defamation suit against UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh is set to begin this Thursday (12 February).
