In your career, there is at least 1 achievement that you’re particularly proud of. It’s 1 of the most significant highlights of your life that you will remember until the end of time.
Local singer and former winner of Malaysian Idol, Jaclyn Victor certainly has a lot to be proud of, and that’s not just winning the 1st season of Malaysian Idol back in 2004. Throughout her nearly 20 years in the industry, Jaclyn revealed her biggest achievement of all time – singing for former US president, Barack Obama.
In an interview with Studio Sembang, a show hosted by actress Amelia Henderson, Jaclyn said that she had the honor to sing for Obama at the National Palace when he visited Malaysia almost a decade ago in 2014. Jaclyn shared her photo with the former president of USA in a Facebook post, and described the man as “gracious”.
Her 1-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sing for Obama is definitely something that she’ll never forget, as she said,
“I felt respected and appreciated because Obama really paid attention to my performance that evening.”
You can have all the attention on you, but you can never get Obama’s eyes on you like Jaclyn!
The Malaysian Idol winner, who is well-known for her song, “Gemilang” also shed another details that made her excited yet heartbroken at the same time.
A visit to the White House, ALMOST
Jaclyn said that after her performance, Obama actually invited her over to the White House in the US where she could have sung with another legendary American singer-songwriter, Stevie Wonder.
If it wasn’t for her busy schedule, Jaclyn would have made another achievement of visiting the White House and singing with Stevie Wonder! She said that she had signed on for another show at that time, which was why she couldn’t fulfill Obama’s wish.
“I was sad. I had signed on for a charity show, which I obviously wasn’t going to cancel,” Jaclyn told Amelia.
When asked about her dream collaboration, Jaclyn mentioned a name that might be familiar to those born in the 80s and the 90s – Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. Time to crank up the volume of the radio and play “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”.
“I would love to do a duet with Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. I’m such a huge fan!”

It would’ve been another significant highlight of her achievement if Jaclyn did make it to the White House and shared the stage with Stevie Wonder. Regardless, Jaclyn Victor remains 1 of the most iconic figures in Malaysia that have made Malaysia proud!
