A food vendor in Shah Alam selling jacket potatoes (a whole potato baked with its skin on, until the outside is crispy and the inside is soft and fluffy) has since taken the internet by storm, with many Malaysians coming forward to share their thoughts on an incident involving another vendor.

The vendor came under fire after reportedly approaching a nasi kerabu vendor who had just opened their stall there to inform them that they weren’t allowed to sell there, as everyone else selling at the location was operating under an association.

Shah Alam food vendor issues public apology

In a clipped video from the vendor’s live session, they further alleged that the nasi kerabu vendor immediately reacted “angrily”, asking, “So, you expect us to close our stall now?

Following the backlash, the vendor issued a public apology yesterday, acknowledging their shortcomings and saying that they would work to “improve day by day.”

The vendor also thanked those who had supported them and apologised to anyone they may have hurt or offended.

“I know many of you are angry with me. I’d like to apologise to everyone if I’ve hurt or offended anyone in the thread. I accept all the feedback and will take the good advice to heart. We have many shortcomings, and we’ll try to improve day by day. I hope everyone can forgive us for our shortcomings.

“To those who have prayed for us and supported us, we’re truly grateful. Without all of you, whether you’re here to criticise us, praise us, or buy from us, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” the post read.

Netizens’ reactions

“What are you trying to improve? That woman sells nasi kerabu, while you sell potatoes. How exactly is she affecting your business? She didn’t interfere with your customers either. And that spot doesn’t belong to your parents. It’s a public place, and you have no right to stop her from earning an honest living. On top of that, you like recording people and using women in your content. Honestly, I’m really annoyed with this person.”

“Why do you have to apologise to people who are on Threads? After all, everyone there is stupid.”

“You’ve been a huge red flag from the start. Whenever people replied to your TikToks, you’d mock them. Looks like you’re in your downfall era now. I used to just watch from the sidelines.”

“Everyone’s already reporting them to Shah Alam City Council (MBSA). Some have done it via email, while others have used the website. Looks like everyone on Threads isn’t playing around this time. You guys are done for. Since you’ve already chased one vendor away, you might as well chase everyone away too. Then no one can sell there. Just rent one of the stalls provided by MBSA instead.”
