A 40-year-old father and his nine-year-old son were found burned to death after a devastating house fire broke out in Kampung Tok Jembal, Kuala Terengganu, at around 2.49 AM today (26 August).

The victims were identified as Amirul Fahmi Wan Jusoh, 40, and his son, Rehan Yusuf, 9. In a heartbreaking discovery, firefighters found the father and son in an upstairs bedroom, their bodies locked in an embrace.

The bodies of the father and son were still holding each other

According to the Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department, a team of 24 officers and firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call in the early hours of the morning. However, the intense flames made it impossible for rescuers to immediately reach the upper floor, where Amirul and Rehan were believed to be trapped.

Firefighters were only able to access the upper level after about three hours, using the house’s metal framework to climb up.

At around 8.40 AM, they finally reached the bedroom and found the bodies of the father and son still holding each other.

Amirul’s 67-year-old mother, Maimunah Muda, was also in the house when the fire broke out. Thankfully, neighbours who noticed the flames rescued her. At the time of the tragedy, Amirul’s wife, Nur Izah Ahmad, who is in her 30s and had recently completed her confinement period, was staying at her mother’s house in Paloh, Kuala Terengganu.

She was there with the couple’s two other children, aged just three months and three years old.

The bodies of Amirul and Rehan were handed over to the police before being taken to the forensic unit at Sultan Zainal Abidin Hospital for further action, Kosmo! reported.

That final embrace is a heartbreaking reminder of the unimaginable loss this family now has to endure.

Our deepest condolences to their family and loved ones.
