Another tornado tore through Sekinchan yesterday evening (March 11), less than one week after the whirlwind hit the district.
In a Facebook post by the Sekinchan Assemblyman, Ng Suee Lim said the tornado was spotted around 4:15 PM, which came with strong wind. The tornado lasted only a minute but was destructive and caused major damage to more than 30 houses, prompting the residents to evacuate.
With roofs blown off and no power to support the residents, many lost shelter in the disaster.
Fortunately, no deaths were reported
Ng visited the affected sites to speak to the residents and offer help. He was joined by the Social Services Organization (JKM) and the district’s fire department.
In a report by Oriental Daily, Ng pointed out that he immediately rushed to the affected area – Taman Ria – after he received a distress call about the tornado.
“The storm arrived so quickly, many residents were not able to take pictures of the tornado.”
“However, the good news is that no casualties were reported,” Ng said.
The affected residents have been evacuated from their damaged houses, and a temporary evacuation center has been set up for the victims with basic necessities provided, as revealed in Ng’s other Facebook post.
TWO tornadoes in a week
Ng acknowledged the disaster that happened twice in a week and the uncertainties in the weather recently. He also said that Taman Ria was struck by a tornado in the past, but the damage was minimal, with only 2 houses affected.
The tornado that took place yesterday was, by far, the largest scale that people in Sekinchan have experienced.
