The Member of the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) for Sura, Dr Tengku Muhammad Fakhruddin Tengku Muhammad Fauzi, is currently being called out online for allegedly creating a false narrative regarding fuel prices in Malaysia.
Taking to his Facebook page, he shared how PAS Youth Dungun were providing free petrol refills in conjunction with the Hari Raya celebrations, due to the “increasing prices” of petrol.

He wrote:
“The recent increase in fuel prices is really putting pressure on the people, especially considering it is the Hari Raya season. Some people may think twice or three times about going around for visits this Hari Raya.
“Alhamdulillah, with a little effort from PAS Youth Dungun, we are trying to lighten that burden with free petrol refills.”
Subsidies are still active
Malaysians were quick to point out that the political party was handing out free RON95 petrol. Under the ongoing BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative, eligible Malaysians continue to enjoy a subsidised rate of RM1.99/litre, even as global oil prices have pushed the unsubsidised retail rate to RM3.27.
Social media users highlighted the discrepancy in his claims:

“The petrol you are sponsoring is RON95. RON95 is still priced at RM1.99 for those with MyKads.”

“What is up with this post? Don’t we Malaysians get the subsidy and pay the price of RM1.99 per litre for RON95?”

“The price increase is for diesel. RON95 is still under the subsidised price for citizens and those with valid licenses. Except for the Mat Rempits and foreigners who don’t have licenses or ICs.”

“Why are you giving free petrol when those making noise are diesel consumers? Why not give out free diesel?”
