Shopping for clothes is mostly therapeutic, but maybe not if the prices are not within your budget which may further elevate your burden.
Recently, Malaysian internet celebrity couple and YouTubers, Chang Yong & Shu Sen launched their very own clothing brand, Dmeow.
At the time of writing, only 2 items are available – a denim blazer and denim pants. Both items can be paired together but the prices may not be what you expected (or could afford).
Based on the website, the denim blazer is sold at the price of RM469, while the denim pants can be purchased at RM439. Customers who wish to purchase the full set will have to fork out RM908 for the attire alone.
The prices have since caused an uproar among many Malaysians, with most of them expressing their disappointment towards how much these items cost.
“Fancier price than Zara”
In the comment section of a post on Dmeow’s Instagram, many Malaysians made it clear that the prices of the blazer and the pants are too expensive, which made it tough for them to show support for local products.
“The products should’ve been comfortable to wear and affordable, not gaining more from the fans when YouTubers themselves are already making a lot.”
Another user said that the intention to #sapotlokal is often halted due to the ridiculous prices, which most people could not afford.
“I’m not denying your hard work, but with these prices, are they even reasonable?”
“RM150-RM250 would still be fine. Zara is not even this expensive.”
In the meantime, some users have commented on the look of the outfit and said it does not justify the high prices of the attire.
“I think it’s meh, but maybe I don’t know much about fashion, and it’s expensive.”
“Coach is not even this expensive. Are you a famous Malaysian designer that we’ve never heard about?”
“Who do you think you are? RM900 plus for the whole set?”
Another user expressed his disappointment and said that the outfit does not go well with the seasons in Malaysia.
RM900 for a blazer and pants is certainly not the usual price that we would spend on clothes. Of course, we do not deny the hard work or the creativity of the designers. Fellow Malaysians, would you have spent on the full set of the attire if you could afford it? What do you think of the designs?
