In a food review, potential consumers do not only look for the price, but they also try to find out the taste of the food and the ambiance of the place before deciding to visit and spend at the place.
A Malaysian food reviewer recently went viral for his review of an eatery in Setapak, KL, but not for promoting the place for its good food. The man got himself under fire for his irrelevant and inappropriate review after saying in his TikTok video,
“The sauce tastes like Abang Lorry.”
The content creator was supposed to review the snacks sold at the eatery, such as goreng pisang cheese with multiple flavours, popiah, and keropok lekor.
The man, however, shared more irrelevant details, such as “this is a review from a student who did not perform well academically“, but nothing much about the taste of the food, other than “it’s sweet”, as well as the sizes and the prices of the snacks.
His review did not sit well with many social media users, who particularly pointed out his “Abang Lorry” remark. The founder of the eatery later had to review the food himself and shared the video on his TikTok account @unclemistreetfood, where he dubbed the initial review “crappy”.
This time, the owner’s review of his food was well-received, with netizens highlighting his review on the necessary details, including the taste of the sauce, the spicy level, and its texture. The owner also commented and apologised for the improper review of the content creator.
“I apologise for that previous review from the content creator because his review did not reflect the taste of my food. I hereby invite everyone to visit my eatery and taste the food yourself.”
“It’s 2025, this is just content, Bossku”
In one of his recent videos, the food reviewer apologised for his “Abang Lorry” remark but explained his rationale behind it. According to him, the content of his review had been discussed with the owner of the eatery prior to its shooting.
“I don’t understand why he said I was talking crap. We discussed the content before I shot the video.”
“Don’t you guys get content creating? This is 2025, you have to have the mindset of a 1-tonned lorry,” he said.
