Bobi, the world’s oldest dog to ever live, as verified by the Guinness World of Records has sadly died at the age of 31 years and 163 days.
The sad news was announced via Facebook by Dr Karen Becker, a celebrity veterinarian who was present at Bobi’s 31st birthday on 11 May.
In the post, Becker shared that Bobi outlived every dog in history with 11,478 days on Earth but even that would not be enough time for those who loved him.
She added,
“Is there ever enough time? I think not. Last night, this sweet boy earned his wings… Godspeed, Bobi… You’ve taught the world all you were meant to teach.”
Previously, Reuters reported that Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo was officially recognised as the world’s oldest dog by the Guinness World of Records on 4 February 2023.
The best doggo was 30 years and 269 days at that time and broke an almost century-old record held by an Australian cattle dog that died at 29 years and 5 months in 1939.
Its owner, Leonal Costa shared that Bobi was born in a tiny village in central Portugal. Back in May, the Portuguese pooch celebrated its 31st birthday and was still in good health despite its old age.
In her Facebook post, Becker shared how she previously asked Costa the secret for Bobi’s exceptionally long life, to which he responded,
“Good nutrition, constant contact with nature, freedom to discover his environment, consistent veterinary care and love. Bobi knows he’s deeply loved.”
Rest in Peace Bobi and may you roam freely and play in heaven with the angels <3
