Being a student isn’t easy. Excelling academically demands a lot of time and effort. However, achieving it brings a unique sense of satisfaction.
@shareenyong reached out to WORLD OF BUZZ to share the inspiring story of her brother’s academic journey at a prestigious college in London.
He’s been on the Dean’s List for 4 consecutive years!
@shareenyong shared that her brother, Gordon Yong, is set to graduate from Imperial College London this October with both a degree and a master’s in Chemical Engineering, and his achievements are nothing short of remarkable.
She went on to explain that Gordon has earned a place on the Dean’s List for 4 consecutive years and was even awarded the prestigious Hinchley Medal for his outstanding contributions to the field.
For those who aren’t aware, the Hinchley Medal at Imperial College of Science and Technology honours the memory of the late Professor J.W. Hinchley, who was the 1st Professor of Chemical Engineering at the college. This prestigious medal is awarded to the top student in the graduating class.
He got rejected by Cambridge
Gordon also spoke to WORLD OF BUZZ, sharing that despite being a top student, he also faced challenges along his journey.
“Honestly, I didn’t apply to any local universities, and I initially had my sights set on Cambridge. However, I was rejected. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as Imperial College recently ranked 2nd globally, surpassing many universities including Cambridge, which was a definite plus.”
The 24-year-old went on to explain that receiving the Hinchley Medal marks a fitting conclusion to his university journey and his graduation.
“Always have faith in yourself. The world may seem big and intimidating, but it’s also full of opportunities. I live by this principle where I would enjoy life as much as possible and work hard when necessary.”
Despite being rejected by his first-choice university, it all worked out in the end. We hope Gordon’s story inspires others who are pursuing their studies at their own universities!
