Viral “Head of IT” Job Ad in T’ganu Offers RM2,000/Mth Salary, Requires at Least 3 Years Experience & Degree

A job vacancy ad from a company based in Besut, Terengganu, has gone viral on social media recently, due to its rather questionable remuneration package in comparison to the position.

Get this, the company is hiring for the position of “Head of IT & System Development” on a full-time and permanent basis, but is only offering a starting salary of RM2,000 per month.

Screenshots of the job ad were shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @rushashraf, and the post has garnered over 4,700 likes and 2,800 reposts as of the time of writing.

In one of the screenshots, the company detailed the criteria for the position, which are:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering and/or equivalent professional experience
  • A minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience, with a strong focus on Laravel
  • Experience in leading and managing team development
  • Experience in working with clients to understand and translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Expert in Laravel and PHP programming language
  • Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Strong understanding of database MySQL and Laravel Eloquent
  • Knowledge of Web Hosting

Meanwhile, in the other screenshot, the company asserted that it is looking for a Head of IT & System Development to lead and manage the development of its internal system.

It added that the position requires the individual to design the overall system architecture, build it from the ground up and ensure the system is scalable, efficient and user-friendly.

Commenting on the job ad, @rushashraf poked fun at the apparent mismatch between the position’s responsibilities and the remuneration package, asserting,

“Head of IT, but the salary 😂”
