For many people, their pets are considered family and are treated and loved as children.

Which is why a dog-mum was so heartbroken to see how her fluffy pet Samoyed had been beaten to death while she was at a quarantine centre.

The dog-mum, Yi Zhi Xue Qiu from the Guangdong Province in China, took to her Weibo account to share details into the incident.

“We (she and her boyfriend) had raised the dog together for 3 years and 3 months. It was already part of our family but now it has tragically died in its own home,” she wrote.

It all started when she was sent to a quarantine centre on 2 March, after her boyfriend had tested positive for Covid-19. Due to the fact that she was not allowed to bring her Samoyed, Snowball, along with her, she was forced to leave it at home.

While she was at the centre, health workers had gone to her apartment to sanitise the space, only to be met with a scared, barking Snowball.

In CCTV footage shared to Twitter, 2 health workers could be seen approaching Snowball as it barks and backs up into a corner. As Snowball tried to run from them, they then proceeded to beat Snowball to death with long metal rod-like tools.

While you can’t really see much in the video, Snowball’s heartbreaking whines and screams of fear and pain could be clearly heard.

The authorities there released a statement on this matter.

“We have apologised to the dog owner and will counsel and suspend the workers,” they shared.

The dog-mum has since called for justice not just for Snowball but all the other pets that have been killed by Covid-19 health workers.

“Why does the Huizhou Municipal Government have no emergency plan for such things? Or is the emergency plan to kill pets no matter if the owner is infected or not, as long as the pet is quarantined?”

“For my Snowball and the millions of others, I implore you to join me in defending pet owner’s rights,” she wrote.

We genuinely hope that she gets the justice she and Snowball deserves.
