Can we possibly find a property in KL for less than RM200,000? There’s STILL a possibility but you can’t expect something grand. A landed house near KLCC or at least with the view of the skyscraper for less than RM200,000? In fairy tales, perhaps.
An image of a house for sale recently went viral for its affordable price – with only RM160,000 for a single-storey house, which is reportedly near KLCC as stated in the listing. The pictures were originally shared on the Facebook page Rumah Bawah RM300K, and the price, which seems too good to be true caught the attention of many social media users.
However, the listing also came with another clarification. The house is not as near to KLCC as you may have thought.
It’s 59KM away from the tourist spot!
Is this a tactic for the salesperson to attract buyers?
Now, let’s assume the property is located in Nilai, which is 49KM away from KLCC according to Google Maps. If you’re patient enough, you’ll need 46 minutes to reach KLCC, without traffic.
A social media user claimed the property is located somewhere in Jeram, Selangor. According to Google Maps, with a little traffic, you’ll take 70 minutes, which is equivalent to 1 hour and 10 minutes to travel from the house to KLCC. Well, if you’re buying the property for its price, are you up to a little bit of long-distance driving?
“This is just a stupid tactic”
Social media users are baffled to see the listing, and many of them calling it an “ethically wrong” advertisement.
“Many property agents are using this stupid tactic. Houses in Rawang, they call it KL North. Those in Beranang, they call it KL South. The Ministry has to take serious action against property agents like this.”
“An agent used to call me about a property in Denai Alam, and told me it’s only 10 minutes away from Shah Alam. I’ve been staying in Shah Alam for a long time, and the agent shouldn’t be overselling the property.”
“I don’t even dare to claim my house being near to KLCC, despite only 6KM away. The traffic hits differently when it’s raining.”
“The agent probably wanted to write KLIA but he unintentionally wrote KLCC.”
“There’s a signboard near my house that says turn right to Mid Valley when the place is actually 40KM away.”
If we’ve any property agents here, is this one of the common tactics that’s used often? What do you think of this listing?
