At around noon today (July 27) several parts of the Klang Valley experienced a blackout. Some of the areas that were affected included: Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya, Sri Petaling, Cheras, Kepong, Petaling Jaya and many other parts.

Although it was initially thought to only effect parts of the Klang Valley, other parts of Peninsula Malaysia were also reportedly affected such as Penang, Pahang, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Perak and several others.

However, 2 hours ago, Tenaga Nasional Berhad announced that electricity supply in all areas affected by blackouts has been fully restored.

Their investigations found that the supply disruption was caused by a fault in one of the equipment at the Main Incoming Substation (PMU) at Yong Peng North in Yong Peng, Johor.

The power outage led to chaos all over as it had affected various parts including telecommunication & public transport services as well as a failure in our public infrastructure.

Lost in connection

Digi updated that they were experiencing network interruptions in most areas in Selangor and the Klang Valley due to the power outage by TNB.

However, the telco company didn’t elaborate on the extent of the network interruption. At the time of writing, Digi is the only telco that posted an update on the interruption.

Cut in mobility

Making matters worse, the outage also happened to cause disruptions to several RapidKL rail services, including Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT line.

On Facebook, the company announced that its rail services were affected by the blackout and advised passengers to stay calm and follow the instructions issued by staff.

It also advised travellers to find alternative arrangements for the time being.

Meanwhile, according to Sin Chew Daily, several traffic lights were also not functioning as a result of the power outage, which caused chaos on the streets.

According to NST, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has deployed its traffic wardens to control and monitor traffic movement at the city’s main roads due to the power outage affecting traffic lights.
