Good news people! With the era of the internet and smartphone, snail mail has taken a backseat to the way we communicate but if you like a bit of nostalgia, then you’re in luck. This coming August, you can actually send letters for free domestically through Pos Malaysia’s services!

This was recently announced by Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo, as he said that Pos Malaysia will offer free mailing services for letters in conjunction with the Merdeka month, as reported by the Malay Mail.
These letters can be sent out using the “Kiriman Merdeka” envelopes, which are available at any Pos Malaysia outlets. You just need to go to the counter to request for the envelopes, pop your letter inside and put it in the mailbox for Pos Malaysia to send. You can send free letters to anyone, as long as they have a Malaysian address. However, do take note that these are only applicable for private senders and not for businesses.

Gobind encouraged Malaysians to use the “Kiriman Merdeka” envelopes to send letters to their loved ones and also to write to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad.
“While the envelopes may be used to send mail to anyone in the country, the rakyat is encouraged to write to the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to express their hopes and dreams for the nation,” he added.
