The oldest and one of the most popular nasi kandar restaurants in the country has distributed 250 free packs of nasi kandar to the needy using the traditional way the meal was sold in the past; by carrying two pots in a wicker basket lined with a wooden pole, Hameediyah Restaurant managed to evoke nostalgia that has long been lost in the country.
In a statement recorded by Awani, the owner of Hameediyah Restaurant, Ahamed Seeni Pakir Abdul Shukor, 66, said the free food distribution was aimed at helping the underprivileged to enjoy food during the Covid-19 pandemic and at the same time, to know about the traditional method used by previous generations. He said,
“In the past, our ancestors sold rice using kandar since the establishment of the restaurant in 1907. Now the youth might have never seen this method, so we want to show it to the public.”
