Police now think that the reason Low Taek Jho, or also known as Jho Low has been able to evade them for so long is because he might have assumed a new identity!

A report by The Star indicated that police and immigration from both Malaysia and Singapore are having so much trouble tracking him down because he could have had facial reconstruction surgery. It’s quite possible, because all current photos that investigators have of the infamous fugitive, are more than three years old.

A lot could have changed since!

“To change a chubby round face to oval or diamond-shaped would cost him between US$10,000 (about RM40,000) and US$20,000 (about RM80,000),” a Kuala Lumpur-based plastic surgeon said. Furthermore, he would only need to spend a few hours to alter his eyelids, nose and mouth. The recovery period for these procedures is about two weeks and another four weeks of putting up with a swollen face which is a small price to pay for evading jail time.

“There are many renowned clinics in Thailand where Low could have had this done professionally,” he added.

Since his superyacht Equanimity was seized by Indonesian authorities, Low has been spotted in Phuket, Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Shanghai. An anonymous source told The Star that his elusiveness in spite of Interpol’s Red Notice (that has been placed out for him since 2016!) has left countries like Malaysia and Singapore asking for further information like his travel details and latest photos that were captured at immigration checkpoints to track him down.

Investigators have reason to believe that he has been using multiple passports to slip out of these countries to avoid being arrested. Seeing that the Malaysian government had revoked his passport on June 15th, Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali told reporters that he believes Low is possibly travelling on a Saint Kitts and Nevis passport.

He could have also been using “butler services” available to the rich and famous to avoid detection. “Such passengers are normally taken directly to a private lounge operated by private jet operators as soon as they land. Their documents are handed to the pilots or ground handlers. They would sort it out with the immigration officer. They don’t have to stand and hand over their passport personally to immigration officers and wait for the documents to be checked and stamped,” a Bangkok-based security expert explained.

If reports of possible plastic surgery is true, he may have one of these faces.

Who knows what Jho could look like now! He can run and he can hide but like someone once said, “clever clever squirrel jump, one day fall to the ground also!” 😉
