Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took to his official social media pages to share a cute handwritten letter he received from a 9-year-old Malaysian student recently.
In the letter written in English, the student, known as Maryam complained to “Uncle Anwar” about the cleanliness of her public school’s toilets.
She wrote,
“I want to tell you about my school’s bathroom. As much as I appreciate your task to make school toilets clean, I don’t think my school’s toilets are clean.”
Maryam added that only two toilets in her school have toilet bowls and that the first stall of the toilet, which is on the left side of her class is a squat toilet.
The student further complained,
“In the first stall of the toilet is a squat-toilet, YES, a squat toilet. Besides the squat toilet is a hole that looks like spiders can crawl out any second.”
“The rest of the stalls are the same. So please visit my school and take a look at the toilet.”
Besides that, she also asked Anwar to look at her note at the back of the letter, which noted how she saw many renovated pictures of school toilets that looked nice but her school didn’t seem to look like that.
Maryam then requested the Prime Minister to “please bring more toilet bowls” for her school and told him that currently, two of the ceiling tiles were also missing.
She then said “Thank you Uncle Anwar” before signing off with her name and class.
Responding to the handwritten letter, Anwar thanked the 9-year-old student and said that he would look into the matter with much detail and expedite the resolution of the issue for the well-being of children in school.
Previously, Anwar during the tabling of Budget 2024 on Friday said the toilet repair project in 8,354 schools would be almost completed by this year.
He also stressed that it was unacceptable that all this while children had to endure having damaged and dilapidated toilets in school.
