PM Anwar Congratulates Singapore’s New President Tharman Shanmugaratnam

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulates Tharman Shanmugaratnam on winning the Singapore presidential election on Friday.

“Congratulations to the former Senior Minister of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam who has won the presidential election of the Republic of Singapore on 1 September 2023,” he said in an official Twitter posting.

Anwar also prayed that bilateral relations and cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore continue to be intact in a family spirit that can bring benefits to the people of both countries, adding that he hopes Singapore will continue to prosper under the new president, Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s leadership.

“Best wishes to Tharman Shanmugaratnam as the new President of the Republic of Singapore!” Anwar stated.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam won the election by receiving 70.4 per cent of the vote. He was also the deputy Prime Minister of Singapore between 2011 and 2019, and a Senior Minister in the cabinet from 2019 to 2023.
